e-Safety
Online Safety
At Takeley Primary School, we take online safety seriously. All children are taught how to stay safe in our digital world and use technology responsibly. Online safety is embedded throughout our curriculum, with age-appropriate lessons covering the key risks children may face online.
Our Approach
We teach children about four key areas of online safety:
• Content – recognising harmful or inappropriate material
• Contact – staying safe when interacting with others online
• Conduct – behaving responsibly and kindly online
• Commerce – understanding online risks like scams
Acceptable Use
Before accessing our school network, children agree to our Acceptable User Agreement and Home-School Agreement. We ask parents and carers to discuss these key points with their child and sign the agreement too.
Social Media
Age Restrictions
Most social media platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Snapchat, have a minimum age requirement of 13. Children under this age do not have the social and emotional skills needed to use these platforms safely.
If your child is using these platforms, you are breaking the terms and conditions of the service provider and potentially putting your child at risk.
Keeping Children Safe Online
We recommend:
• Using YouTube Kids as a safe alternative for younger children
• Setting up parental controls on all internet devices
• Regularly discussing online safety with your child
• Supervising your child's internet use
Reporting Concerns
If you or your child experience online bullying or inappropriate behaviour, you can report this to:
• The service provider directly
• CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Command)
The school is required to report any safeguarding concerns involving inappropriate social media use.
